He holds an exhibition in Galeria 33 in Johannesburg,  
South Africa. 
He learns to make his first items of pottery in the Matola 
Pottery Works, near Lourenço Marques.. 
He uses the then abandoned Art Nucleus as a painting 
and ceramics studio with his colleague and friend  
Lobo Fernandes. 
He produces designs for tiles in a factory in Umbeluzi, 
near Lourenço Marques. 
He leaves and visits Nigeria, Zaire, Kenya and Paris, 
where he first sees the original works of artists 
from all over the world. 
He participates in the exhibition commemorating the 
lst Anniversary of Independence. 
He visits London, Munich, Zurich and Paris once again. 
He is one of the founders of COAPA. - Centro Organi- 
zativo dos Artistas Plásticos e Artezãos (Art and 
Handicrafts Artist's Centre), which is born out of 
the ashes of the extinct Art Nucleus. 
Their daughter, Solange, is born.
